Background: XR in the AEC sector can introduce fundamental advances for real-time visual feedback to improve efficiency of tasks for inspection, assembly and operation.

Approach: In this project we aim to develop a real-time spatial compute XR-platform to facilitate improvements at different stages of a building’s life cycle with the primary objective of minimizing embodied carbon and operational carbon emissions. The platform will support various project phases including the manufacturing process, operational tasks and prolonging the life of the building through refurbishment and reuse of building elements to minimize waste from demolition.

The developed methods will help engineers, maintenance personal, and building users by providing real-time feedback and visual support for in-situ data thus making their everyday work more efficient. In order to reach these goals, we will develop a real-time platform incorporating the developed XR-methods. The platform will be simple to connect to and therefore facilitate access for people in the building industry to XR.
