Design++ Summer School: AI in AEC

The final presentation of our inaugural Design++ Summer School: AI in AEC marks the conclusion of a remarkable week. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional students, committed tutors, and outstanding collaborators whose collective efforts ensured the success of this event.

Throughout the week, we explored how machine learning and generative AI can enhance building ideation and accelerate sustainable design and construction within the AEC sector. Participants gained invaluable hands-on experience with specialized AI applications tailored for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction. The innovative projects presented demonstrate great promise and signify a pivotal contribution to the future of the AEC industry.

This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our co-organizer, NCCR Digital Fabrication, and our esteemed collaborators, encompassing ETH Zürich's Department of Architecture (D-ARCH) ETH Zurich (D-ARCH), Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG), Department of Computer Science (D-INFK), ETH Zürich (D-INFK), Swiss Data Science Center, Gramazio Kohler Research, Digital Building Technologies, ETH Zurich, Robotic Systems Lab, Halter AG, and more.

Special appreciation is extended to our tireless organizers and tutors, namely Dr Aleksandra Anna Apolinarska (Gramazio Kohler Research, Institute for Technology in Architecture), Sophia Kuhn (Chair of Concrete Structures and Bridge Design, Institute of Structural Engineering), Dr. Andreas Müller (Chair of Steel and Composite Structures, Institute of Structural Engineering), Dr Luis Salamanca Mino (Swiss Data Science Center), Dr Anton Savov (Chair of Digital Building Technologies, Institute for Technology in Architecture), and Dr. Olga Vysotska (Computer Vision and Geometry Group, Robotic Systems Lab).

We are deeply grateful to our Design++ organizers, including Danielle Griego, Dr Aleksandra Anna Apolinarska, Erika Marthins, and co-organizer Kaitlin McNally from NCCR Digital Fabrication, for their seamless event coordination.

Our heartfelt thanks also go out to our distinguished keynote speakers: Dr. Valens Frangez (Halter AG), Dr. Dr Matthias Standfest (formfollows.ai), and Prof. Dr. Bernd Bickel (ETH Zürich).
