Education

Design++ integrates novel tools and techniques into the architecture and civil engineering curriculum for students at ETH.

One core element of Design++ is education. We not only develop new tools and methods for research but we also develop and integrate them into the architecture and civil engineering curriculum for students at ETH. For this, we have applied for and received numerous Innovedum projects which allow us to tailor computational tools for students. These tools are then integrated into new and existing courses which are part of the Design++ affiliated courses. These courses at ETH are aligned with the departmental strategies to incorporate more digital technology into the curricula.

Along with courses, many Design++ faculty, postdocs and doctoral students supervise thesis projects for bachelor, master and master of advanced studies (MAS) students. Through the courses, thesis projects and Innovedum projects many students also gain access to the Immersive Design Lab (IDL) and the Large Scale Virtualization and Modelling Lab (LVML), where they can experience and develop their own immersive simulations and collaborative tools. An ongoing list of course highlights are showcased here to provide an overview to prospective students.

We have aligned our education activities to be highly complementary to existing ETH Zürich programs and to prepare the next generation of architects and engineers with the computational and interdisciplinary methods to tackle future challenges in their careers.
